So, if you follow me on Instagram or you’re inside one of my groups, you’ve seen me post these really adorable Ice Cream EOS Lip Balm Favors. I promised I would show a super simple tutorial on how I created them…so here it is! Keep in mind, you can use a cutting machine to achieve these favors in 1-2-3! But not everyone owns a cutting machine, so I’m going to show the REAL
D-I-Y way to create them.
These favors only require a handful of materials and a tiny bit of creativity! Follow the steps below to create your own!
STEP 1: Figure out which direction you want to go in. Make sure whatever artwork you create, buy or use, has a circle that will serve as the “housing” for your lip balm. For this tutorial, I’m doing a gender reveal as my subject. I chose a baby elephant holding onto a balloon.
I brought my artwork into my favorite design program PHOTOSHOP. Then set up my file. These will be 4x6” (portrait mode). Once I had my document setup, I added my art and created a circle shape with the ellipse tool that measures 1.5”x1.5”. That size perfectly fits the lip balm.
**Keep in mind when setting up your artwork, if you are not using a cutting machine to do these, you will need to make sure your circle comes close to the edge of the paper, doesn’t matter which edge but it needs to be close enough to fit your paper punch over. If it’s dead in the center, you will need another type of cutting tool to make your cut.
I added my circle right over the balloon to make sure the artwork was sized to fit the lip balm.
STEP 2: Depending on your artwork you may or may not need this step. Since my artwork had a blue balloon I needed to use Photoshop to change the color of my balloon so there was no confusion if some of the artwork shows around the lip balm. This gender reveal is for a GIRL. You can find out more about manipulating artwork, changing colors and much more in my Advanced Photoshop Techniques class. Once I had the perfect balloon color, I added my text and went to print.
STEP 3: Now, that I have my favors printed out, I will need to cut them out. I use a Fiskars Paper Slicer to do so.
STEP 4: Next, I used my circle punch to make a cut out where the ballon was.
STEP 5: You will need to open your EOS Lip Balm, and place it behind the cutout you made, grab the top and and twist it closed. Closing it on top of the paper will hold it in place. Trust me, it won’t be going ANYWHERE.
STEP 6: This step is completely optional. I took my round corner punch to finish off the edges. Fun, right? Definitely one of my favorite paper tools!
Here’s the finished product! These are so cute and fun to make. I hope you guys enjoyed the tutorial and I can’t wait to see what you come up with. Tag me or share them with me in Party Mavens!
